A Letter from our Chief Executive Officer

At The Skatepark Project, we believe that skateboarding is more than just a sport; it’s a community. Skateboarding is a powerful way for kids, and people of all ages, to build resilience and confidence, enhance their well-being, and create long-lasting relationships. While it’s no surprise that 76% of youth skate primarily for fun, a striking 62% also use it as a way to relieve stress. With today’s youth experiencing unprecedented amounts of anxiety and depression, often fueled by social media and socioeconomic barriers, it’s now more than ever that kids need access to healthy outdoor recreation and free play.

When a kid finally lands the trick they’ve been working on, you can feel it across the skatepark through the excitement of others. This acknowledgment isn’t just about skill; it’s positive feedback about their commitment to practicing. Each skater improves at their own pace, following a path that aligns with their individual interests and learning styles. This freedom fosters confidence and a sense of ownership, empowering kids to set and achieve their own goals, both on the board and in their everyday lives.

As we near the end of the year, your support is crucial. And now through December 31st, every donation will be doubled through a generous matching grant. Your support will make it possible for us to provide programming in skateparks across the country, build more parks in underserved communities, and provide essential skateboarding gear for the kids who need it most. Thank you for believing in our mission. Together, we can ensure that anyone who wants to skate has the opportunity, and a safe and welcoming place to do it!

With gratitude,

Benjamin Anderson Bashein
Chief Executive Officer
