Built to Play Skatepark Grand Openings

Lockport, NY Grand Opening Celebration

A few weeks back, community members in Lockport, NY celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new Built to Play skatepark. Even with the cold weather and snow flurries, nearly 100 people came out to hear speeches from representatives at the Lockport Community Service, the City of Lockport, The Skatepark Project, and other supporters and funders of the skatepark.

Skatepark advocates and elected officials have remained supportive of skateboarding and BMX within the community, having built previous parks that featured ramps, rails, and a miniramp that served the temporary needs of the community, as they worked toward a more permanent solution

This new, custom concrete skatepark is not only a dream come true for local skateboarders and BMXers, but it will provide a free recreational opportunity for generations to come

Pontiac, MI Grand Opening Celebration

The city of Pontiac, MI also recently celebrated its Grand Opening of the Roberto Duran Rodriguez Skatepark! The festivities kicked off with inspiring speeches from dedicated skatepark advocates, funders, partners, and local community members. Attendees enjoyed a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, local food trucks, gear giveaways, and much more!

Through TSP’s Supply The Ride program, 100 skateboards, and 25 helmets were donated to youth in the community lacking access to new equipment!

With support from the hardworking volunteers at the Pontiac Skatepark Project and the Built to Play program, created in partnership with TSP and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, this new park is open and ready to ride.

If you’re ever in the Pontiac area, make your way over to the Roberto Duran Rodriguez Skatepark and check out the community’s newest public skatepark for yourself.
