So Far in 2025: Grand Openings & Gear Giveaways!

Watts Skatepark Grand Opening Celebration

The Watts Skatepark project reached a milestone with its official grand opening, marking the successful culmination of a 15-year community effort. City officials joined local youth and community advocates to celebrate this transformative public space, reflecting the persistent dedication of neighborhood supporters who championed the project from conception to completion.

This world-class, all-access skatepark is an amazing example of what’s possible when a community rallies together collaboratively and with conviction. The new 14,000 sq. ft. park for the community of Watts, CA highlights the unyielding commitment and tenacity of everyone who made this dream skatepark a reality. Working with CA Skateparks and using their All Access Skatepark approach, the Watts Skatepark focuses on accessibility, inclusion, and progressive longevity - including several adaptive skatepark elements like WCMX ride-on grind ledges and audible warning tracks for all riders to enjoy the space together. In addition, a long open sidewalk “ring road” was added around the space to create a designated loop for budding skaters to find comfort and flow. Pro WCMX and adaptive athletes, as well as pro skateboarding legends, came out to the event to skate with the locals, give some pointers to the new skaters, and celebrate the momentous occasion of this exciting new community space in Watts.

We’re incredibly grateful to the community members and partners who helped to make this new skatepark possible, including the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the Watts Gang Task Force, the LA Parks Foundation, the Annenberg Foundation, and the Council District’s unwavering support.

U.N. Skate Plaza Ribbon Cutting & Gear Giveaway

In February, TSP joined the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Converse, and Skate Like a Girl to celebrate the unveiling of the newly expanded U.N. Skate Plaza! The plaza, originally redesigned in November 2023 as part of a pilot program to reduce crime and activate public space, has already seen remarkable success, drawing over 340,000 visitors and contributing to a 79% reduction in daytime drug-related incidents.

This skate space for the community of San Francisco, CA now features skateable geometric art designed by Olympic skateboarder and MIT-trained architect Alexis Sablone, combining public art and skate spot architecture to engage both novice and experienced skaters alike!

During the two-day celebration, the local community skated the new obstacles with the Converse CONS team, youth from Shred N Butter and SF Skate Club received free skateboards, helmets, pads, and other essential new gear through TSP’s Supply The Ride Program (with support from our partners at  Triple 8, DLXSF, and SkateOne), Skate Like a Girl led youth skate lessons and how-to clinics, attendees participated in a classic cash-for-tricks remix with gift cards prizes, and so much more!

This plaza expansion represents a true collaboration between local advocates, TSP, Converse, Alexis, and a supportive city coming together to upgrade this historic space for the Bay Area skate community.
