Summer Recap: Grand Openings, Go Skate Day, and More!

Chandler Park Skatpark Grand Opening

Our team recently attended the Chandler Park Skatepark opening, a new 15,000 sq ft. skatepark in Detroit made possible by the Built to Play program, in partnership with the Ralph C Wilson Jr Foundation. Alongside the neighborhood’s youth, skatepark advocates, Mayor of Detroit, Mike Duggan, and many others, we celebrated this great new recreational space with the whole community.

We were honored to share the impact of this special day with our friends from Ralph C Wilson Jr Foundation, Find Your Grind Foundation, our Board of Directors, and even a surprise visit from Tony Hawk himself! Moments like these are a reminder of why we continue to advocate for safe and inclusive skateparks in the communities that need them most.

300 Skateboards Built to Give Away!

To further our mission of making skateparks more accessible to everyone, we partnered with Nouns DAOto build and give away free skateboards to youth in underserved communities. TSP volunteers came together to build 300 skateboards, all generously donated and designed by Nouns DAO.

Navajo Nation Community Program & Board Giveaway

Following the board build with Nouns DAO, TSP has distributed skateboards to two communities, including one in Two Grey Hills, New Mexico on Navajo Nation. In partnership with 4KINSHIP, our team headed out to Navajo Nation with 100 skateboard completes from the build. It was an incredible day building relationships, skating with the kids, and connecting with the community near the site of the forthcoming Diné Skate Garden Project

Go Skateboarding Day 2022 & Board Giveaway at LES Skatepark

On June 21st, The Skatepark Project visited a number of TSP-supported skateparks across the country to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day! The sense of community was overwhelming as so many people of all ages came together to share in a collective passion for skateboarding.

We joined in on the celebration at the 10-year anniversary of the LES Skatepark in New York City alongside more than 1000 skaters who showed up! In honor of the park's milestone, we gave away skateboard completes from the Nouns DAO board build to youth in need of a new board in the community. Protect the Sacred “Skate to the Polls” Initiative

On August 13th, TSP attended the Skate to the Polls event hosted by Protect the Sacred and Harness to build awareness around the collective power of voting and getting Native community members registered to vote. It’s always exciting seeing communities come together and use their skatepark as a gathering place for new ideas and civic engagement! With our partners from Harness, we believe in making your voice heard by voting. To check your registration status or to register to vote, please visit iwillharness.com/land.
